Givenchy’s new Campaign with no Eyebrows

by Jenny on August 21, 2009

A new makeup trend in the world of fashion are the invisible eyebrows. We have seen it on the runway from designers like Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton. Now in the new fall/winter campaign of Givenchy models like Adriana Lima is showing off the new trend. But this is not a completely new trend, it has been a beauty trend since the beginning of time. During the time of Queen Elisabeth it was considered to be beautiful. And look at David Bowie in the 70’s. It has been coming and going through the time of fashion. But I have to say, it’s not an easy look to pull off. Seeing Adriana Lima, mostly known from Victoria Secret, in the new campaign of Givenchy she has brought out a darker side than we are used to seeing her. With the bleached eyebrows and the dark lips and hair it almost feel a bit goth. Would you wear this trend?

I don’t know anyone that looks good without eyebrows, but fashion designers don’t need to create “normal” look because it’s boring and un-inspiring. It’s like avant-garde style – not many can wear it, but there is still place for it. The same with “no eyebrows” – if designers go for the obvious look, they won’t get the exposure they need. Now the unconventional look becomes the norm, and if I see something conventional – I lift an eyebrow!
