Denim is perpetually being recreated, reinvented and re-styled to take on different incarnations and designs that parallel the direction that fashion is headed towards at the time. For the upcoming fall season however, denim seems to be going in two vastly different directions.

As far as both denim styles go, denim brands are reverting to past decades for style inspiration. The ‘70s are being made new again with the advent of wide-legged denim once again being popularized. Many stylish female celebrities, from Katie Holmes to Nicole Richie and Olivia Munn, have been seen sporting the retro denim styles by brands like William Rast, J Brand and myriads of others.

Olivia Munn in Wide Leg Denim by J Brand (left) and Nicole Richie in Wide Leg Denim (right)

On the other side of the denim spectrum, the exact opposite of wide-legged jeans are rampant. “Jeggings”, or jean leggings, are quickly becoming the most-referred-to and most desirable denim trend for the upcoming fall season. While the word itself might feel awkward to say or hear, jeggings are the ultimate skinny jean with the lightest and most flexible denim, allowing you to get the fit and comfort level that leggings provide, all while achieving the more tailored look of wearing denim.

J Brand 901 Olympia Jegging (left) and William Rast Siena 905 Denim Jegging (right)

Rock Revival Denim Carla 02 Jegging (left) and Rock Revival Denim Carla Jegging (right)

Whether you choose the more adventurous denim style of wide-legged jeans, or if you choose comfort and easy style with jeggings, this fall season has something for every style when it comes to denim.

Visit Luello.com to see jeggings and other denim products by brands like J Brand, William Rast and Rock Revival!

The fall is approaching and some new lovely trends are here to make us wanna go on a shopping spree. The aviator jacket is one of the hottest trend fall 2010 and it comes straight from the runway. The jacket should be in leather and cropped, military inspired with a lining of shearling. This reshaped modern cut jacket is simply a must have for the fall wardrobe. Some fashion brands such as Burberry, Phillip Lim and DKNY has already taken the aviator jacket and turned it into a modern version with its soft leather and oversized shearling collars.

You can wear this jacket with a simple top and leggings, a feminine dress or even a pair of jeans and boots. The secret with this trend is to keep it sexy under the oversized jacket. Just keep it simple and natural and you’ve got the look!

Herrera, before becoming a fashion mogul, was named to be one of the best dressed women in the world. Following that title, she decided to enter the fashion world with the idea that she would design clothes for the average woman in the 1980’s. Her dress already inspired many and it was a logical step for her to become a designer. She pays special attention to the sleeves and shoulders of her clothes. They’re functional, elegant, and most importantly, comfortable.
Herrera was initially named one of the best dressed women in the entire world. She often cites her South American upbringing as the source of her inspiration when it comes to fashion. She moved into designing her own clothes when her friends began showing interest in her use of fabrics and attention to detail. Carolina always claimed that she knew what the women of the era wanted and she was going to deliver it to them. She designed dresses that accentuated the female figure and maintained elegance. She has been praised by many fellow designers and reporters for her understanding of what people of each era need and providing it to them.

Christian Lacroix is best known for his truly outrageous designs. His fabric combinations were unheard of in the time period and he continued to push boundaries with his couture. No fabric or design was too expensive to create and by essentially following a philosophy of, “if you’re not shocked, it didn’t work,” he made himself famous in the 1980’s.

Biograhpy
After moving to Paris to pursue his university studies, Lacroix met his future wife. She encouraged him to pursue his interests in fashion. He got a shop working for another couture house in Paris and eventually saved up enough money to open one of his own. He began to make a name for himself in fashion world as people began to realize that no design was too outrageous for Lacroix to touch. He used the most expensive of fabrics and accessories to ensure that his designs wouldn’t be matched and that they were just as intended. In addition to his outrageous designs, he also mixes fabrics that usually have no place together. Things like lace and plaid could be combined in his works. Lacrois rode the fashion train until the 1990’s, when people started to denounce his work and over the top flair. People began to see that his work only had a time and place in history and wouldn’t survive for longer periods of time. He is still designing today and expects the same movement that swept up in the 1980’s to hit again.

Biograhpy
After dropping out of school at the age of 12, Louboutin became inspired to start his own shoe line. He often cites his main source of inspiration as the shoes worn by strippers in Parisian dance clubs. He is best known for his work in the 1990’s where he brought high heeled shoes back into the mainstream. He always claims that he wants to make women’s legs look as sexy as possible and to accentuate their power. His trademark red soled shoe came by accident when he felt like his shoes didn’t have enough “bang.” He added some red fingernail polish to the bottom soles and the trend took off. His extremely high stilettos, which he is now known for, came from an act of defiance. He saw a sign in a museum that specified that women with stilettos that were too sharp were not allowed entry for fear of damaging the floor. Christian wanted to defy the rules and design a shoe so over the top and so pointy that women would feel confident, sexy, and like they were breaking the rules every time they wore it.

Calvin Klein put his stamp on the fashion world by being recognized for his highly provocative marketing campaigns. While his clothes may not be the most original, they are sleek, sexy and worn by the rich and famous. Couple that with the risque and often over the top fashion commercials, Klein has made a name for himself in the fashion world.

Biograhpy
Calvin Klein began in New York City, like most other designers, sketching in his notebooks at school. He made his way through the Fashion Institute of Technology and eventually managed to scrape together $10,000 to open his own coat shop in New York City. He had been designing his own coats while working long hours during an apprenticeship. His line expanded to include women’s wear and ultimately, in the 1980’s, Calvin Klein began his provocative streak. He began designing clothes that fit in with a very rock and roll and drug culture, and his commercials didn’t help. Often featuring half naked models, or in some cases amateur models, he started controversy through America. His marketing technique had never been seen before and he made his way to the frontlines where he stays today. His provocative style has kept him on the cutting edge and his designs will continue to shock generations to come.

At just 18 years of age, he began winning awards for his designs. After World War II broke out, it wasn’t until the war ended that Mr. Blass could get back to designing clothes. He enlisted in the army. Upon arrival back home, he purchased the fashion company Maurice Rentner. He would go on to expand the company to massive proportions by introducing everything from perfume to swimwear. Blass retired from the fashion world in the early 1990’s and was succeeded by his assistants. He died in 2002.

Following her major success at the fashion show, Sui opened her own store in New York City and brought her clothes to the masses. Sung’s philosophy from the beginning was to design clothes that are far more functional than they are fashionable. He wanted clothes that had an element of style to them, to prevent them from being boring, but also wanted them to be able to be worn around town as functional garb. By continuing this philosophy, he created a variety of women’s clothing that women of all kinds can enjoy. By having the right blend of conservatism and trendiness, Sung found an untapped market.

Awards
HBA International Package Design (This was awarded for his fragrance, “Shi,” not his fashion line). Was also named one of the top ten new designers in 1981 by Saks.

Biograhpy
Alfred Sung was born in Shanghai, China. After showing an interest in drawing and art, his father send him to Paris to study fashion and clothes making. After he spent some time there, he managed to transfer to Parsons College in New York City where he studied fashion for another year. Soon thereafter he landed a job working in New York City. Disenfranchised with working for someone else, Sung moved to Toronto to open his own boutique. His boutique, Moon, opened in the mid 1970’s. For the few years that the boutique was open, Sung designed and manufactured all of his own clothing for a small fan base in Toronto. He formed a partnership with two friends in 1979 and began focusing more on design while his new business partners took care of the business side of things. Unfortunately, the company went bankrupt a few years later after recently being appointed one of the best new fashion designers by Saks Fifth Avenue. Alfred opened a new line, not deterred by previous business failings, and continues to make clothing today. In addition to his clothing line are fragrances, sunglass collections, and a plethora of accessories. The Sung name is now much more than just a small boutique shop in Toronto. It is a worldwide franchise.

For her era, Klein was a revolutionary. Klein came to the fashion world with the idea that people needed practicality in their clothing, and that was currently missing. She knew what the average American woman wanted in sportswear and she was going to bring it to them. Klein focused on showing women how to mix and match clothing from her line so that busy women around the country could still look fashionable no matter how time-strapped they were.

Nationality
American

Born
August 3, 1923, New York City, USA.

Education
Art at Girl’s Commercial High School and fashion at the Traphagen School. Both in New York City.

Labels
Junior Sophisticates, Anne Klein and Company and Anne Klein Studio,

Awards
Coty American Fashion Critics award, Neiman Marcus award, Lord and Taylor award,

Biograhpy
Like most fashion designers of the era, Klein made her start as an apprentice at another major fashion firm. She worked for Mallory leather before deciding to branch out and start her own line. With her first husband, she started a clothing line directed towards younger women who she claimed, needed clothing based on their shape and size, not on how old they are. Following the success of this business venture, Klein opened another line tailored more towards an older audience. This line of sportswear was intended to be geared towards an audience of busy women. She wanted women to be able to look trendy and practical no matter how busy their lives. she always took the time at her runway shows to exemplify the versatility of her clothing no matter the occasion. Several friends and fellow designers took over the Anne Klein and Company name and made significant contributions to the company after Klein died from breast cancer at the age of 51.

Her simplicity and elegance have proven very popular since their introduction.
Alberta Feretti began by dropping out of high school at the age of 18 to open her own fashion boutique. She started by carrying small name brands and through some savvy business sense, grew to include things like Armani and Versace in just a few years. Through a stroke of luck, a designer found her store one day and told her that her own designs should be sold at more locations. Ferretti took the advice and started her own fashion line and moved her clothing into stores over Italy and eventually worldwide. She made her debut at a 1993 fashion show where her clothes took everyone by surprise. Combining sexiness with simplicity, her togas and dresses were a hit. She now has boutiques in New York City and all across Europe. Her success in recent years can also be contributed to celebrity approval of her work. The likes of Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman have both given praise to Ferretti’s sleek and sexy designs.

Armani has always wanted to create a very sleek and formal fashion line for his customers. Originally with a women’s fashion line, Armani branched out into men’s fashion soon afterward. His clothes are often reminiscent of the past, when gentlemen were proper and well dressed at all times. His philosophy can always be seen in his men’s suits, which are always free of frills or extra design. By being as “functional” as possible, they in turn become as fashionable as possible.
Giorgio Armani began his career in the 1960’s working as an assistant to the then “Hitman” fashion label. Around 1971, Armani decided to branch out on his own and start performing freelance work on the side. He got the idea to form his own fashion line with a friend, Sergio Galeotti, and in 1975 the first Armani line hit the shelves. Armani, as a company, began by selling women’s clothing and it wasn’t until the 1980’s that Armani gained recognition. It is thought that Armani gained notoriety by designing clothing for the stars, particularly in movies. Eventually, the name became mainstream and Armani clothing became prominent on and off screen. Nowadays, Armani is focusing on a very sleek look that is both classy and modern.

Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston is now launching a new fragrance called Lolavie. Aniston told WWD not to ask her what the name of the perfume means, because it’s a long story and it’s too personal to tell, but she says it has a special significance. Reports are saying that Aniston has been working quietly with this scent for the last two years. The scent is said to be gentle floral and organic. Aniston tells WWD that she doesn’t want her new fragrance to be too overpowering she said “I want people to go, ‘What is that? You smell great!’.

Lolavie will be released this summer, starting at Harrods in London and hit the US stores later this year, according to WWD.

The campaign for the new fragrance will be Jennifer Aniston sitting on a rock along a beach in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with a towel wrapped around her and her hair windswept. The image does reflect the natural and organic scent of the perfume, but doesn’t it also give a feeling of coldness and vulnerability? Would you consider buying Aniston’s new fragrance?
