Biograhpy
Calvin Klein began in New York City, like most other designers, sketching in his notebooks at school. He made his way through the Fashion Institute of Technology and eventually managed to scrape together $10,000 to open his own coat shop in New York City. He had been designing his own coats while working long hours during an apprenticeship. His line expanded to include women’s wear and ultimately, in the 1980’s, Calvin Klein began his provocative streak. He began designing clothes that fit in with a very rock and roll and drug culture, and his commercials didn’t help. Often featuring half naked models, or in some cases amateur models, he started controversy through America. His marketing technique had never been seen before and he made his way to the frontlines where he stays today. His provocative style has kept him on the cutting edge and his designs will continue to shock generations to come.
