Mr. Blass began his life in the small town of Fort Wayne, Indiana. During his days at school he spent his time doodling in the margins of his textbooks and eventually his love of doodling and fashion brought him to New York City. At just 18 years of age, he began winning awards for his designs. After World War II broke out, it wasn’t until the war ended that Mr. Blass could get back to designing clothes. He enlisted in the army. Upon arrival back home, he purchased the fashion company Maurice Rentner. He would go on to expand the company to massive proportions by introducing everything from perfume to swimwear. Blass retired from the fashion world in the early 1990’s and was succeeded by his assistants. He died in 2002.
