Alexander McQueen is a fashion designer known for his theatrical and traditional cutting techniques with dramatic and beautiful constructed pieces. He combines elements from British tailoring together with some French couture. His signature looks include hourglass shaped dresses, romantic gowns in beautiful traditional lace and embroidery, sharply cut suits, skinny trousers with coats.

Alexander McQueen was born in London, in March 17th 1969. After he finished shool at the age of 16 he got an apprenticeship with the Saville Row tailors Anderson and Shephard. Then he moved on to working for Gieves and Hawkes and later the theatrical costumiers Angels and Bermans where he learned to master cutting melodramatic patterns from the 16th Century which has inspired many of his designs. At the age of 20 he was working for the designer Koji Tatsuno and a year later Alexander went to Milan and started working as a design assistant for Romeo Giglis. In 1994 he returned to London to finish his master degree at the prestigious fashion school, Fashion Design at St. Martins. His graduation collection was bought in its entirety by the famous fashion stylist Isabella Blow. Alexander McQueen is known for the mix between contemporary and traditional style and in less than 10 years he has become one of the worlds most famous and respected fashion designers. In December 2000 Gucci Group acquired 51% of Alexander McQueen, where he still works as the Creative Director. Alexander has got a number of prestigious awards like British Designer of the year, International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer’s of America and A Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire (CBE) by her Majesty the Queen and more. Alexander McQueen collections is today being sold in over 39 countries all over the world.
