Denim is perpetually being recreated, reinvented and re-styled to take on different incarnations and designs that parallel the direction that fashion is headed towards at the time. For the upcoming fall season however, denim seems to be going in two vastly different directions.

As far as both denim styles go, denim brands are reverting to past decades for style inspiration. The ‘70s are being made new again with the advent of wide-legged denim once again being popularized. Many stylish female celebrities, from Katie Holmes to Nicole Richie and Olivia Munn, have been seen sporting the retro denim styles by brands like William Rast, J Brand and myriads of others.

On the other side of the denim spectrum, the exact opposite of wide-legged jeans are rampant. “Jeggings”, or jean leggings, are quickly becoming the most-referred-to and most desirable denim trend for the upcoming fall season. While the word itself might feel awkward to say or hear, jeggings are the ultimate skinny jean with the lightest and most flexible denim, allowing you to get the fit and comfort level that leggings provide, all while achieving the more tailored look of wearing denim.

The color of 2010 has now been decided and Pantone, which tracks colors in the fashion and interior industry, chose turquoise. The reason of the choice was that the color is soothing and reminds people of being on vacation, which they thought we all need after a long and tough year of 2009.

It seems that we are going to see a lot of turquoise as well as pastels next spring according to the trends. I definitely think that an uplifting color such as turquoise is needed after a winter of darker colors. It brings out the feeling of summer and freshness, and goes well with a nice sun tan and some cool accessories. I cannot wait to start experimenting with this new trend!

The snood is back in trend and it’s the chicest way of staying warm this winter. It’s the perfect accessory to add to your winter outfit and it comes in all kinds of material. From faux fur to knitted wool and other fun fabrics, snoods can add that extra chic touch. The trends of the 80’s are coming back one after one. With the thigh high boots, oversized shirts and blazers to sequin covered pieces and now the snood. We saw a moment of the snood in 2008 but now it seems to be here to stay. The Milan Fashion Week 2009 was held at the end of September this year and we could see a lot of big fashion designers in Italy’s favorite fashion city. We have seen endless of fashion reports about the latest collections for Spring 2010. But my big question was, which WERE the new trends for next Spring? Here are 3 trends from Milan Fashion Week 2009. Which trend is your favorite?

1. Lace

We will be seeing a lot of lace for Spring 2010, both dark and lighter colors. The light colored lace will be great for a day outfit and the darker lace for the evenings. What I love about the lace, is that it gives a very feminine look. Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2010 collection brought some amazing pieces to the catwalk. Cannot wait to see this trend in stores!

2. Feminine silhouettes

Lately the trends have been a lot of leather jackets and studs which gives a tougher look, but now we can expect to see more feminine and softer silhouettes and colors. Less zippers and more lacing. The feminine look is coming back to our closets and they are looking cuter than ever.

3. Cargo style

The cargo style seems to be back in fashion, but with a trendy twist. Khaki green trenchcoat-like outfits seems to be a hot trend for next Spring. It’s kind of a mix between cargo and safari style, something we already saw last Spring but this time they are back with trendy twist. Max Mara has created these stunning pieces.

The Fashion Weeks of 2009 for have been on a full schedule this Fall and they have brought a lot of new trends to the catwalks. I wanted to go back to the London Fashion week which was held in September and see which were the hottest trends for next Spring. Here are 3 trends from London Fashion Week 2009. Which of these trends is your favourite?

1. Pastel

Burberry Prorsum was showing off a great mix of pastel colors. I cannot wait to see these light colors for Spring, they will be a great start of the Summer!

2. Lingerie look

Many designers have been showing off pieces that has the lingerie inspired look this year. It could be a combination of a bra, dress or a top. Fashion designer Antonio Berardi has created a beautiful collection here with skin toned pieces.

3. Diamonds and studds

For Spring we can expect to see a lot of diamond and studd covered clothing. Matthew Williamsson and Louise Goldin have created some interesting pieces. The jewelry has moved onto becoming a part of your clothes.

If you are looking for a chic and super trendy piece I recommend that you try the tuxedo! The tuxedos for women is yet another masculine hot trend that seems to become more and more popular among the celebrities. The tuxedo for women is not a new trend though, it was introduced by Yves Saint Laurent already in the 1960’s when he designed Le Smoking (the first tuxedo for women).

Today the tuxedo for women is also made with a slim fit which makes it a great item for when you want to show off your silhouette. Or if you prefer to go with the traditional tuxedo look, there’s the boyfriend tuxedo which is longer in length. What’s great with this jacket is that you don’t necessarily have to wear a complete tuxedo look. But you can actually wear it with a pair of skinny jeans or a nice skirt and top, it will go with almost anything. Perfect for a night out!

Already last year the statement necklace was a hot trend and it seems like this trend is back even for 2009 . We have seen them on the runway shows during the Fashion Weeks for Spring 2010 as well as in stores. The statement necklace can be worn in many ways, it’s all a question of personal style. Personally I prefer wearing the statment necklace with a basic outfit like a top or a dress with simple colors and shape. I believe that if you wear the statment necklace, it should be the center of attention to your oufit. Try to keep your neckline simple by avoiding halterneck outfits. Stay with v-neck or strapless for your look. Also keep your other jewelry simple to keep the focus on the necklace. You should avoid chunky bangles, big earrings and headwear to keep it simple.

There are different types of statement necklaces. You can try out the bold necklace, which can be worn as one or even two if you want to be more challenging. There is the layered necklaces where you can add necklaces in different sizes and length. You can go for a necklace matching your outfit with the same colors, or else if you have the guts wear something that really stands out. Wear what represent your personality and style. It’s all about statement. Go creative and experiment!

This Fall the movie Coco Avant Chanel has created some new trends in the fashion world. It can be seen everywhere in shops as well as on the celebrities and now I’m starting to see it on the streets. Even in the last Chanel campaign Coco Cocoon with Lily Allen this trend could be seen. The early 20’s style is the super hot trend for Fall/Winter 2009/2010. The fabrics, the pearls, the jackets it’s all here but with a 21st century’s twist. I’m in love with this trend with the black, white and cream colors and the rough fabrics but with soft and feminine details like the bows and pearls. The high street stores like for example H&M’s Trend collection is out with some beautiful pieces that has that Coco Chanel look to them. The boyfriend look has been a very hot trend this year and something we saw already in Spring 2009 is the boyfriend but jeans. Now, some might think that this trend has already passed but I believe that it’s here to stay for at least another season. We are now in Fall and it’s the perfect time to start wearing those jeans again. What’s great about these jeans is that they are so versatile, comfortable and easy to dress down or dress up. You can go with a boho style and some gladiator sandals and a loose fitted tee, or wear the jeans with peep-toe boots and a sequin top. There are different types of boyfriend jeans, depending on how authentic you want your look to be. You can either borrow your boyfriend’s jeans or go and buy a pair of men’s jeans in a meanswear or vintage shop. But the jeans don’t have to be your boyfriend’s jeans, because you can find so many jeans made for women but still gives the look of boyfriend jeans. Remember to turn them up at the bottom to give that oversized look. Some boyfriend jeans follows the ripped jeans trend, but it’s not a must. When wearing the boyfriend jeans it’s important that you show off your feminine features, otherwise you might look more like a bum or maybe even like your boyfriend.

The fall has arrived and there are some new trends that is just neccessary for our wardrobes. If you haven’t done your fall shopping yet, here are the top 10 must haves for fall 2009.

1. Faux fur

This fall Faux Fur, aka fake fur, is a big trend. They have been cropping up a lot lately, from the runway to the street looks. They can now be found in stores everywhere like Topshop and Zara. You can get a fluffy faux fur jacket with a pair of skinny jeans or a nice dress. Even a nice faux fur vest would go nice with a floaty blouse or tee before the winter weather starts.

2. Over the knee boots

The over the knee boot is a trend that might need some more guts but definitely a must have. You can find them in so many different styles and I’m sure you will find one that suits you. You can wear them over leggings, skinny jeans or with a nice dress.

3. Leather jacket

The leather jacket has always been a hot item for the wardrobe, but this year it’s hotter than ever. You can go for a cropped jacket with three quarter sleeves or longer lenghts. There are endless or styles and colors and what’s great about this jacket is that you can wear it with almost anything, a hot dress or just a loose tee.

4. Prominent shoulder

We have seen this trend on the runway many times this year and at first I have to say I didn’t really like it. But as soon as I saw Balmain’s spring collection I fell in love with it. It has definitely become a must have for the fall. You will find the prominent shoulder with jackets as well as dresses.

5. Sequin

Sequin is back. I never thought I would see that again for a long time. But it’s here and it’s super hot! Our biggest fashion designers like Balmain, Alexander McQueen and Michael Kors have done them in beautiful creations and we can finally find them in our stores. It’s definitely a great item for a night out!

6. Military jacket

This trend is one of my favourites for fall 2009. The military jacket also called the Michael Jackson jacket is one of the biggest trends this year. Balmain was the very first to show these jackets last spring. Now we can see them being worn by celebrities and in the latest collections of H&M, Zara and Mango and more.

7. Cardigan

Cardigan for me has always been a must have, but this year is a really hot trend. The cardigan looks great on any body shape since there are so many styles and it works for any age group. A style I really like is the asymmetrical cardigan which can be worn with jeans or leggings. It’s an item that can be worn for work, class and even for the weekend.

8. Colorful handbag

Make the fall a bit more colorful this year and get a chic colorful handbag. It’s a nice way of adding a touch of color to your accessories. Go for a hot and trendy color of the fall like purple, cyan, wine red or blue.

9. Platform pumps

Pumps was trendy even last year, but this time it’s back with a bit of a platform. The platform pumps adds a little bit more sexiness to your outfit and goes with a daily look as well as a hot dress for a night out.

10. One shoulder dress

The one shoulder dress has been seen a lot this year and it’s definitely a must have for this fall. You can find  sexy one shoulder dresses and tops in various fabrics and styles.

This year body jumpsuits have definitely made a comeback. The jumpsuits have occasionally been appearing in high fashion context starting in the 60’s, especially the 80’s. I still remember Elvis Presley’s famous white jumpsuit. Today the jumpsuit has been done in so many different shapes and styles so you can surely find the jumpsuit fitting your own style. We have seen them long with wide legs or short with spagetti straps.
