In case you have missed the big news, the superstar and football player David Beckham is launching his own bodywear line for H&M this winter.

He had previously told WWD about the collaboration, “The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward.”

“We’re always looking for new ways to surprise and delight our customers, and we see this as a unique opportunity to reach millions of fans and H&M customers. David Beckham is a true style icon and one of the most decorated soccer players of all time,” Steve Lubomski, Director of Marketing for H&M North America, said in a press release.

The bodywear line is set to launch on 2nd February and will be available in 1800 H&M stores worldwide. Good news is that the collection will be rather wallet friendly with a pair of briefs ranging from $15.

The year is coming to its end and we look back on 2011 as a very eventful year. There has been good as well as bad news hitting the fashion world this past year. So before moving onto a new year, let’s summarize 2011 and what we think has been the top fashion news 2011.

Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Royal Wedding
In April this year we saw Kate Middleton get married to her Prince William. The royal wedding was followed by over 2 billion viewers world wide and ever since the wedding, the royal couple has received more media attention than ever. Kate Middleton quickly became a fashion icon and her fashion choices were followed by the fashion world at every moment. Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton became famous after the wedding and has also become an icon in the fashion world.

Princess Beatrice’s Hat Sold For $130,700
At the royal wedding, Princess Beatrice got a lot of attention from the fashion media because of wearing a very particular hat. The hat, designed by Philip Treacy, quickly became famous and even got its own facebook page with over 140,000 members. The hat was sold on auction for $130,700 and the proceeds were donated to Beatrice’s Little Bee Initiative.

Versace For H&M
The Italian fashion label, Versace, which is more famous for their haute couture and high end fashion chose to create a few collection for the high street retailer H&M. The collaboration quickly became hyped and the first collection was launched in November this year.

Kate Moss’s Wedding
Supermodel Kate Moss finally tied the knot in June with Jamie Hince. Among the wedding guest were celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney, Jude Law and many more. Kate Moss had 15 bridesmaids at her wedding and her wedding dress was cream colored with a vintage style. Their wedding quickly became a talk of year.

Missoni For Target
Italian knitwear label Missoni created a collection together with retailer Target, which quickly became a big hype among fashion fanatics. The launch of the collection got so much attention that Target’s online store crashed due to the increase in traffic.

Christian Louboutin Lawsuit Against YSL
The famous shoe designer Christian Louboutin who are famous for their red soles filed a lawsuit against Yves Saint Laurent this year for creating a pair of red pumps with red soles in their spring 2011 collection. The lawsuit received a lot of attention and many questioned Christian Louboutin’s claim of being the only one using red soles.

Victoria Beckham’s Daughter Harper Seven
In July, fashion designer Victoria Beckham, gave birth to her first daughter Harper Seven. Beckham who is usually followed by media wherever they go, obviously got even more attention once the baby girl arrived.

Kim Kardashian’s Wedding
Reality star Kim Kardashian married her boyfriend Kris Humphries in August and shared the big fairytale wedding to viewers around the globe. The wedding received a lot of attention, including her three wedding dresses designed by Vera Wang. Unfortunately, only months after the wedding, the newlyweds decided to split.

Beyonce Announced Pregnancy In Lanvin Dress
Superstar Beyonce announced her big news at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards in August. She told the world that she and her hubby Jay-Z were expecting their first child while she was performing on stage. Beyonce is due to give birth early next year.

Hollywood actress and icon Elizabeth Taylor’s sparkling jewel collection was auctioned off last week for a total of nearly $116 million, which is a world record for a private jewelry collection.

Christie’s Americas President Marc Porter told the New York Post, “It’s one of the most extraordinary auctions that Christie’s has ever had and a testament to the affection for Elizabeth Taylor worldwide.”

The jewel collection included rubies, emeralds, one-of-a-kind diamonds and pearls and which in total was comprised of 80 pieces, also called “The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor”.

Most people thought that the big winner of the evening would be the 33.19-carat diamond that Richard Burton gave Taylor and that she wore every day. The diamond ring was sold for $8.8 million. Instead, the big winner was the pearl necklace, called “La Peregrina”, which brought in $11.8 million. When the bidding went over $10 million, applause broke out among the crowd. The pearl is a famous 16ht century pearl and has been included in many artwork for centuries, including paintings by Velazquez. The necklace was set with diamonds and rubies.

Another jewel also sold at the auction was the Taj Mahal diamond, which was a gift from Burton for Taylor’s 40th birthday. This was sold for $8.8 million. The Mike Todd Diamond Tiara was sold for $4.2 million and the ruby and diamond ring that Burton gave Taylor for Christmas in 1968 was sold for $4.2 million.

Director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders is launching a new documentary featuring supermodels including Marisa Berenson, Jerry Hall, Isabella Rosellini, Paulina Porizkova and Carmen Dell-Orefice who are at a certain age and talks about the modelling industry and aging.

The documentary About Face goes back in time to a glamorous era when drugs were uncontrollable and young models were mistreated and used. The supermodels taking part in the documentary talks about everything from the business of modeling to aging and plastic surgery.

The documentary will be aired on HBO this coming summer.

H&M keeps hitting us with exciting news, one after the other. Not only will H&M be launching a collection with Italian fashion house Marni, but the commercial for the campaign will be directed by Hollywood film director Sofia Coppola. The commercial will be shown in cinemas, television and online. The shot was taken in Marrakech, Morocco in October.

Looking at Coppola’s personal style and the way she direct movies she is probably the perfect match for showing off designer Consuelo Castiglioni’s quirky designs. Coppola is an H&M fan and has previously been attending launch events of H&M’s designer collaborations with both Lanvin and Versace.

Sofia Coppola told WWD, “I enjoyed doing this film for the Marni at H&M collaboration. I think it’s great how they make fashion accessible and I wanted to show the fantasy fashion can bring. Consuelo seems really sincere and cares about what she does and I appreciated that.”

Whatever H&M is trying to do here, it seems to be working as they are managing to build up a hype for every collection launch. We cannot wait to see more of this!

The chaos and hysteria around the recently launched Versace collections for H&M has barely settled and now reports are saying that H&M is already working with the next high end fashion designer on a new collaboration. H&M is planning a collection together with Italian fashion house Marni. Fashion designer Consuelo Castiglioni founded Marni in 1994 and has ever since become famous for their quirky signature prints and fabrics.

The collection is set to be launched on March 8th, 2012. The Marni collection will include women and men’s wear as well as accessories.

We can already imagine that this will be a fun and quirky collection with a lot of prints and colors just in time for spring. To get a better idea of what the collection would look like, here are some pieces from Marni’s previous collections.

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is the biggest televised fashion show of the year and earlier this week it was time for yet another show. The world was watching the supermodels walk down the runway in different creations from superhero to latino inspired pieces.

Celebrities filled the front rows to watch the show and singers like Kanye West, Maroon 5, Jay Z and Nicki Minaj was doing their part on the stage.

Supermodels like Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Chanel Iman and many more were walking the runway looking hotter than ever. The different themes for the show were: Ballet, Super Angels, Passion Play, Angels Aquatic, I Put a Spell on You and Club Pink. The most expensive piece of the lingerie show was Miranda Kerr’s Fantasy Treasure bra worth $2.5 million.

It was an evening filled with angel wings, Swarovski crystals, lingerie and models that should make us last for another year.

Singer Rihanna was recently seen as the new face for Armani jeans and underwear. Now it appears Rihanna didn’t get enough of the fashion industry and is now trying her luck by designing her very own collection for, Armani.

Rihanna will be working together with the Italian label, Armani, to create this new collaboration that will give her fans a taste of what it would be like to be shopping with their idol. The collection will include lingerie and denim pieces. The line will obviously have the Rihanna staple of good-girl-gone-bad attitude and sexiness that she’s known for.

Some of the pieces in the collection have prints with a logo of the R, which stands for Rihanna. Other prints are sketches of Rihanna’s face. The jeans have a tight fit but with a boyish cut. There’s also a biker jacket that has that sexy Rihanna attitude. The lingerie are more delicate with colors of navy blue and pearl.

The collection is set to be released mid November.

Supermodel Sasha Pivovarova seems to have a multi-talent. Not only is she one of the world’s top supermodels, a painter and making her acting debut in In Time with co-star Justin Timberlake, but now she will also be designing a collection for Gap. Seems like she can do it all.

She will be doing a sleepwear and lingerie collection that will include underwear sets, nightdresses, camisoles and boyshorts inspired by fairy tales. Considering Pivovarova’s talent as a painter, we might expect to see some art inspired prints.

Sasha told Vogue UK, “Creative process gives me the most freedom because I can do anything I want on a piece of blank media.”

The prices starts from $26 and going up, which makes it an affordable line. The collection is set to be launched in beginning of December, so it might be a great Christmas gift for any who is fashion obsessed!

Yesterday Versace for H&M hit stores worldwide with their latest collection. Now there are already rumors of the next designer collaboration for H&M. According to Business Week, who called H&M creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch, and she mentioned an interest in working with former Creative Director for Gucci, Tom Ford. She said, “He’s a very interesting name. I can say, I wouldn’t mind.”

A collection with Tom Ford would be the ninth designer collaboration for H&M, who previously worked with designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo and many more.

Tom Ford, who left Gucci in 2004, started his womenswear and beauty lines as well as directing an Oscar-nominated film called A Single Man. Maybe a collaboration with H&M will be the next thing in his repertoire?

UK has banned the latest Marc Jacobs ad with Dakota Fanning. The ad is for Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance, Oh Lola!. The ad features young actress Dakota Fanning, holding a big bottle of perfume in her lap. UK’s Advertising Standards Authority has received so many complaints about the ad that they had to ban it.

According to the Telegraph, ASA stated: “We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child.”

This is not the time we are seeing a fashion creation for sale for a shocking high price. Remember The Row’s famous and sought after backpack worth $39,000? The latest eye-popping priced piece are the shoelaces worth $19,000.

The shoelace is created by Mr. Kennedy, which is a Colombia based brand named after the founder of the modern shoelace. According to NCB, the shoelaces which are made of 24-carat gold, can be delivered by security for you anywhere in the world. And if you prefer silver for your shoes, you can get a pair for “only” $3000.

It was only a couple of months ago Macy’s launched their collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld. Now the retailer is getting Doo-Ri Chung to be their latest designer collaborator.

Chung is known for her beautiful draped dresses and separates. Last week one of her dresses was worn by Michelle Obama at a state dinner welcoming South Korea. Chung will be designing the same aesthetic in the Macy’s Impulse collection including maxi- as well as short dresses, blouses, leggings and trench coats using fabrics like jersey, knitwear and art prints.

Doo-Ri Chung said about the new collection, “Women definitely want clothes that are versatile. I love pieces that you wear for day, and when you accessorize, become perfect for evening, too.”

The collection will be launched on February 15th in stores and online. The prices will vary between $39 up to $159.

The American retails giant, Target, continues with collaborations with high end fashion designers. Recently they launched a collection together with Missoni and soon they will also launch a children collection with Gwen Stefani. So who’s next? Well, it has been announced that Jason Wu will be designing a one off collection for Target.

Jason Wu told WWD about the new collaboration, “The exciting thing about this limited edition collection of affordable women’s wear and accessories is that it allows me to reach a wider audience and bring my designs to people who may not have been able to purchase them before.”
